Conflicts of Interest: Advanced Topics and Considerations

February 13, 2012
D.C. Bar Conference Center
1101 K Street, NW
Washington, DC 20005

Zuckerman Spaeder LLP partner Thomas B. Mason will speak at the District of Columbia Bar's program "Conflicts of Interest: Advanced Topics and Considerations" on February 13, 2012. This course will provide the practicing attorney with an understanding of advanced conflict-of-interest issues under the D.C. Rules of Professional Conduct. Using a series of hypothetical scenarios, the class will explore topics such as a lawyer's duty of loyalty, representing both sides in a business transaction, being adverse to one's own client in an unrelated matter, conflict-of-interest considerations involving former clients, and conflict issues after changing law firms. The program also will address the consequences of a conflict of interest, including disqualification, professional discipline, and malpractice liability, as well as law firm procedures to avoid conflicts.

Mr. Mason is chair of the D.C. Bar's Legal Ethics Committee and of Zuckerman Spaeder's Legal Profession and Ethics Practice.
