Elizabeth G. Taylor's Client Acquitted in Second Criminal Fraud Trial

November 6, 2009—On November 5, Zuckerman Spaeder LLP partner Elizabeth G. Taylor won a second trial victory on behalf of a client charged with tax and mail fraud in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia. After a four-day bench trial, Ms. Taylor’s client was acquitted of mail fraud charges stemming from an alleged scheme to defraud an insurance company. In February, the client was acquitted of federal tax fraud charges following a jury trial. Both fraud charges were brought in one indictment, but were severed for trial.

“Winning one trial is a challenge; winning both is a great victory for our client,” Ms. Taylor commented.

This matter arose out of a dispute between the client and an insurance company over disability insurance coverage. The government alleged that the client made misrepresentations to the insurance company.
