Because of his extensive trial experience in both federal and state court, a wide range of professionals turn to Gregg Bernstein when they are faced with criminal or civil matters. With a practice focusing on white collar criminal defense, public corruption, environmental crime, and commercial litigation, Mr. Bernstein’s clients have included a former state senator who was acquitted of bribery and extortion charges, and the head of a state agency whose indictment charged him with misappropriating federal grant money was ultimately dismissed, among other high-profile matters.

Mr. Bernstein counsels large corporations as well: he represented one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturers in multi-district litigation arising from dozens of federal civil RICO actions. Other clients include several national insurance companies regarding coverage litigation and stock brokerage companies in matters involving enforcement of employment agreements.

As an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Maryland from 1987 to 1991, Mr. Bernstein prosecuted a wide variety of federal criminal matters, including investigating and obtaining convictions of a number of defendants for the illegal export to Iran and Iraq of a chemical precursor used in the manufacturing of mustard gas, an accountant who contracted the murder-for-hire of an Internal Revenue Services agent, and the operator of a freight train who caused a deadly collision with an Amtrak passenger train. He then joined the Baltimore firm of Miles & Stockbridge, leaving in 1993 to form Martin, Junghans, Snyder & Bernstein, where he practiced in the areas of white collar criminal defense, commercial litigation, and complex civil litigation in both federal and state courts.

After graduating from law school, Mr. Bernstein served as a law clerk for the Honorable Elsbeth L. Bothe of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. He is a former adjunct professor at the Catholic University School of Law and the current president of the Maryland Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.
