Nelson C. Cohen focuses his practice on bankruptcy and commercial litigation. He has represented numerous debtors in complex Chapter 11 reorganizations, served as creditor committee counsel, and represented secured creditors in bankruptcy cases. He has also represented Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 Trustees in virtually all aspects of bankruptcy law. Mr. Cohen regularly practices before the bankruptcy courts in Maryland and the District of Columbia, and has appeared before the New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Florida, and Virginia bankruptcy courts.
After graduating from Penn State and serving four months in the U.S. Army Reserve, he moved to the Washington, DC, area where he worked as an accountant. In 1970, he entered law school at the National Law Center, George Washington University, and obtained his degree with honors in 1973. From 1973 through 1978, Mr. Cohen was an associate with the law firm of Levitan, Ezrin, West & Kerxton; he became a partner in 1978. In 1984, he began practicing as a principal of the firm of Kerxton & Cohen, Chartered. In 1987, Mr. Cohen joined Zuckerman Spaeder and became a partner in 1988.
