Leslie Berger Kiernan represents individuals and corporations in government enforcement, criminal and congressional investigations, and in civil litigation before the federal courts. Many of Ms. Kiernan's cases involve matters that require concurrent representation in the civil, criminal, and political arenas.
Ms. Kiernan has represented clients in the Whitewater, Campaign Finance, Travel Office and Teamsters grand jury and congressional investigations. Recent cases have included the defense of a senior campaign official in an investigation conducted by the Department of Justice Campaign Finance Task Force, representation of a corporation and its chief executive in connection with congressional and Department of Justice investigations, and the defense of two government officials in Indian Trust litigation contempt proceedings. She has represented clients before the House and Senate Ethics committees and the Federal Election Commission. Ms. Kiernan has also defended clients in civil litigation presenting a variety of fraud issues and clients facing enforcement action by various government agencies, including the FDA and the SEC.
Ms. Kiernan also has an active counseling practice on matters arising under federal and state campaign finance, lobbying, ethics, and conflict of interest laws. She has advised clients on matters arising under the congressional gift rules, the Federal Election Campaign Act, the Lobbying Disclosure Act, the Ethics in Government Act, and the Foreign Agents Registration Act, and she has represented clients in DOJ compliance audits. She has counseled current and former government officials in connection with various post-government employment ethics issues. She has also worked with corporations and trade associations to develop government affairs compliance programs.
