Peter R. Kolker handles cases in which economic principles intersect with litigation presentations. His practice includes the representation of officers and directors of troubled financial institutions faced with both criminal and civil proceedings, advocacy for partners and other business associates who find themselves in controversy with their former colleagues; and guidance through disputes in which asset valuations are the key to resolution. Building on the firm’s substantial bankruptcy expertise, Mr. Kolker has represented debtors, creditors, and Chapter 11 trustees in adversary proceedings in the bankruptcy court and in appellate review of those determinations at the district and court of appeals levels. Real estate litigation, including financing issues, land use disputes, and appraisal matters, also comprise part of his practice. In personal legal matters, he has assisted individuals in, for example, domestic relations disputes involving substantial assets and contested estate matters that entail challenges to estate planning documents and trusts.
Mr. Kolker has appeared in federal and local courts, including bankruptcy courts, in each of the jurisdictions in which he is admitted, both in jury and non-jury trials and appellate matters. He has also represented clients in alternative dispute resolution proceedings, mediations, and arbitrations, including international arbitration.
Mr. Kolker joined Zuckerman Spaeder after serving in the office of the Deputy Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington and gaining substantial criminal trial and appellate experience, principally in the federal courts in Washington.
