Thomas B. Mason focuses his practice in the areas of white collar criminal defense, civil forfeitures, attorney disciplinary proceedings, and complex civil litigation.
Mr. Mason represents attorneys in Bar Counsel cases where attorneys have been investigated and prosecuted for misconduct, and law firms in partner departures and law firm breakups. He also represents a wide variety of clients in white collar criminal litigation including foreign nationals, government employees and Internet companies. In addition, he works with Oneida Indian Nation on various issues relating to land claims including reviewing historical facts for use in current legal claims.
Prior to private practice, Mr. Mason gained invaluable experience and developed his trial skills working for the Federal Public Defender for the District of Maryland where he represented clients in a wide variety of cases, including espionage, civil rights, mail and wire fraud and controlled substance prosecutions. In 1987, Mr. Mason joined the DC Public Defender Service where he also engaged in an intensive criminal trial and appellate practice.
Mr. Mason has taught trial practice in a number of settings, including the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. He served as adjunct professor of law at the Columbus School of Law at Catholic University from 1986 to 1990. While in law school, Mr. Mason was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and an Articles Editor of the Columbia Journal of Law and Social Problems.
