Laura J. Barta

Laura J. Barta focuses her practice on the panoply of issues arising in e-discovery and has supervised the review of millions of pages of documents. She develops document review plans; manages teams of reviewers on long-term, short-term, and urgent document reviews and productions; and handles issues regarding attorney-client privilege and work product protection in discovery settings. Laura regularly works with in-house and external litigation support staff, drafts and facilitates litigation holds and document-pull strategies, and carries out final review of responsive documents and privilege logs.

Laura’s experience includes work on matters related to the collapse of Enron and other complex matters including legal malpractice actions, civil and criminal tax matters, government and congressional investigations, patent infringement suits, shareholders derivative actions, and bankruptcies. She also has helped manage the practical issues surrounding the transfer, destruction, and retention of documents in the transitioning of legal practices.

Laura sits on various firmwide committees regarding technology and planning and is proficient with a wide range of document review platforms. She has worked extensively on behalf of pro bono clients, including tax-exempt entities and indigent criminal defendants, and has traveled in support of cases across the country.

Prior to joining Zuckerman Spaeder, Laura represented tax-exempt organizations in tax, trademark, employment, and corporate matters as an associate at a small boutique firm and was a commercial litigator at an international firm in Los Angeles.

Laura received a Masters in biophysics and human physiology from Georgetown University, where she is a Master of Laws candidate in the Taxation program.
