Lisa J. Stevenson counsels clients in pre-indictment criminal cases, white collar litigation, complex civil matters, disciplinary proceedings, and other investigations and litigation brought by state and federal agencies. She has experience in matters ranging from securities fraud to malpractice to health care fraud to class actions. In addition to representing individuals in white collar and malpractice matters, Ms. Stevenson also represents a wide variety of corporate clients, including law firms, defense contractors, and pharmaceutical companies. She has also handled insurance coverage matters for both plaintiffs and defendants.
Before joining Zuckerman Spaeder, Ms. Stevenson practiced at Covington & Burling where she represented a wide range of clients in civil litigation and criminal investigations and conducted numerous internal investigations, with a focus on representing pharmaceutical companies in both products liability litigation and government investigations.
Ms. Stevenson maintains an active pro bono practice. Most recently, she represented a client who was denied a volunteer position at a federal agency. With Ms. Stevenson’s assistance, the client ultimately succeeded in securing the first ever ruling that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits employment discrimination in uncompensated, volunteer jobs. Her interest in animal law has also led to pro bono representations dealing with animal welfare issues.
After law school, Ms. Stevenson was a law clerk to Judge James Robertson of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. She is currently a member of the Edward Bennett Williams Inn of Court for white collar criminal lawyers.
