Margaret “Peggy” Dotzel is trained as both a lawyer and a pharmacist, and is focusing her practice on food and drug law, including litigation, administrative actions, and legislative and policy matters. Prior to joining Zuckerman Spaeder LLP, Ms. Dotzel worked in the Office of the Commissioner at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from 1995 to 2003. While at FDA, Ms. Dotzel rose to the position of Associate Commissioner for Policy, where she led the Agency on numerous, critical policy and legislative initiatives and supervised the development of the agency’s regulations.
Prior to working at FDA, Ms. Dotzel was an associate at Wilmer, Cutler and Pickering, in Washington, DC (1990-1995), where her practice included complex civil litigation, white collar criminal defense, legislative matters, and administrative practice before the FDA and the Consumer Products Safety Commission. Following law school, Ms. Dotzel clerked for Judge Jerry Buchmeyer, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
She received her B.S., summa cum laude, from Temple School of Pharmacy and earned her J.D., with honors, Order of the Coif, at the University of Texas School of Law.
