Zuckerman Spaeder Names Dwight P. Bostwick Chairman

January 13, 2016

Zuckerman Spaeder LLP is pleased to announce that Dwight P. Bostwick, a partner in the firm’s Washington, DC, office, has been named chairman of the firm’s Executive Committee and Partnership Board. Mr. Bostwick, a nationally recognized commercial and white collar litigator, officially assumed the position on January 1, 2016.

Mr. Bostwick follows Graeme Bush, who served as chairman since 2000 and steadily guided the firm as the legal industry faced disruption and consolidation. Under his leadership, Zuckerman Spaeder was involved in some of the nation’s most notable cases, significantly expanded its presence in New York City, and received numerous recognitions, including being named to The National Law Journal’s Midsize Hot List four times and being awarded Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year by the DC Bar. Mr. Bush himself was named as a “Visionary” by The National Law Journal. While chairman, he maintained an active practice and he will continue as a member of the management team, assisting in the transition of the firm to the younger generation of lawyers and firm leaders. He also will focus on his practice in complex civil litigation and white collar criminal work, including internal investigations for corporate boards and bankruptcy committees, and representation of lawyers and law firms facing substantial litigation and other challenges.

“I’m deeply honored that my partners have placed their confidence in me,” said Mr. Bostwick. “Graeme has done a tremendous job in leading this firm, and I’m excited to play an important role in transitioning the firm to the next generation. Zuckerman Spaeder is widely recognized in the industry as a go-to firm for litigation of all types. It’s the proud home of some of the nation’s most accomplished attorneys. My goals are simple: Keep the firm on a steady path, support our talented attorneys, provide the highest quality of legal assistance to our clients, and foster the collegiality and teamwork that has defined the firm from the beginning.”

In his seven years at the firm, Mr. Bostwick has built his own successful practice by providing clients with sound judgment and effective advocacy in high-stakes civil and criminal disputes. He has represented executives, government officials, associations, nonprofits, unions, and corporations in a range of industries. His current representations include the defense of the Chief Accounting Officer of a multibillion dollar REIT in criminal inquiries and civil lawsuits relating to allegations of shareholder fraud, the defense of a Brazilian national in the Petrobras “Car Wash” scandal, litigation advice to a French Pharmaceutical company, the defense of a foreign national in an insider trading matter, and the appeal of the $765 million NFL concussion settlement on behalf of a number of former NFL players. Prior to joining Zuckerman Spaeder, Mr. Bostwick was a trial attorney in the Fraud Section of the U.S. Department of Justice where he worked, as a younger lawyer, as one of three DOJ prosecutors responsible for the original Whitewater grand jury investigation.

“Dwight is not only a superb lawyer but has demonstrated in the last two years as we have worked on transition of firm leadership, that he has the respect of his partners, a vision for the future, and the ability to bring people together and build consensus,” said Mr. Bush. “Zuckerman Spaeder’s success is driven by our people—smart and aggressive attorneys who work collaboratively and put the firm and our clients ahead of personal achievement. With his combination of personal likeability and professional intensity, Dwight is the right person to lead us forward.”

Roger E. Zuckerman, one of Zuckerman Spaeder’s founding partners, said, “The firm enjoyed 15 years of brilliant leadership from Graeme Bush, which benefitted it immeasurably. Dwight will follow that same path. The support for Dwight was clear from the beginning, and he has the complete confidence of the partners. Our process and choice of Dwight reflects how we’ve operated for 40 years—hiring good people, who also happen to be exceptional lawyers, and working as a team to produce the best results.”
