Zuckerman Spaeder LLP Tampa Office Receives Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award

April 25, 2014

Tampa, FL—Zuckerman Spaeder LLP is honored to announce that last night it received the “Outstanding Pro Bono Service by a Law Firm” award from the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Court’s Pro Bono Committee, H.A.V.E. A HEART, and the Bay Area Legal Services Volunteer Lawyers Program. The annual award recognizes one firm’s exceptional pro bono service to the Tampa community.

“Pro bono service is a cornerstone of our work at Zuckerman Spaeder, and we strive to be a true leader in the community,” said Morris “Sandy” Weinberg Jr., managing partner of the firm’s Tampa office. “It is an honor to be singled out for this recognition among all of the impressive Tampa-area law firms. Our lawyers firm-wide volunteer thousands of hours each year to pro bono work, and our firm is committed to helping to ensure equal justice under the law for those less fortunate.”

The firm has been engaged in a number of important pro bono efforts in Florida, including representing children in foster care for Crossroads for Florida Kids, Inc. in delinquency and dependency proceedings; representing migrant farmworkers who were denied wages for hours spent waiting in fields for dew to dry on tomatoes; investigating risks to voting rights following Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner’s initiation of a program to purge alleged noncitizens from state voter registration rolls; and pursuing post-conviction relief for a pro bono client serving a life sentence in a Florida state prison for a noncapital murder.

Zuckerman Spaeder was also honored in 2013 by Bay Area Legal Services with the organization’s Justice Advocacy Award, which recognizes support, both through financial donations and volunteer service, by a law firm and its members to Bay Area Legal Services, its clients, and other persons of limited means.
