Community Volunteer of the Year, PARC, 2012

Zuckerman Spaeder LLP partner Marcos E. Hasbun was named “Community Volunteer of the Year” by PARC, a large Tampa Bay area social service agency serving more than 800 children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Mr. Hasbun has been a member of PARC’s board since 2007, is a member of the Governance Committee, and currently serves as the board’s secretary and treasurer. Since 2009, he has also been the PARC representative for board member functions at Manasota ARC, a partner organization in Bradenton, FL. In addition to serving as a board member, Mr. Hasbun has provided pro bono counsel to PARC and Manasota ARC to help the organizations in the face of economic and other challenges.

“My community work is driven by a personal passion to help people with developmental disabilities,” said Mr. Hasbun. “My brother suffers from autism, and because of his struggles, I am committed to aiding community organizations that help people with developmental disabilities. I am humbled to receive this honor from PARC, which does so much to help its clients find their voice, experience independence, and live their lives to the fullest.”

“Mr. Hasbun has seen obstacles and worked relentlessly toward positive solutions—always keeping first and foremost what is best for children and adults with developmental disabilities; he is a stellar advocate. The outstanding and voluminous work he has done on behalf of PARC has been recognized by the board of directors and executive leadership,” said Karen Higgins, president and CEO of PARC. “His professional strengths are complimented by his genuine compassion. PARC’s participants, volunteers, and staff members are extremely lucky to have his support, leadership, and friendship.”

Mr. Hasbun’s legal skills have earned him recognition both in Florida and nationally. Most recently, Law360 named him a “Rising Star” in the health law category for his success defending high-profile health care clients in False Claims Act litigation. The Tampa Bay Business Journal selected Mr. Hasbun as an honoree for its 2011 Up & Comers Awards. He was featured in Florida Trend magazine’s 2011 list of “Florida Legal Elite”—an honor extended to just 2 percent of attorneys in the state, nominated by their peers in the Florida Bar and selected by the magazine. Mr. Hasbun has also been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 2010, while Benchmark Litigation named him a “Future Star” in its 2010-2012 rankings and a “Local Litigation Star” in its 2013 edition.
