Midsize Hot List, The National Law Journal, 2012
For the third consecutive year, Zuckerman Spaeder LLP has been selected by The National Law Journal as one of just 20 law firms named to its Midsize Hot List, an annual recognition of distinguished U.S. law firms. According to The National Law Journal, the 2012 Midsize Hot List represents firms that “have proven process is as important as results” through “spotting legal trends while they are still emerging” and “in building groups of attorneys who work well together and stick around to serve their clients for the long haul.”
“The National Law Journal’s inclusion of the firm in this year’s Midsize Hot List reflects not just the caliber of the firm’s attorneys and the complexity and notoriety of the cases we take on, but also our approach to assisting clients,” said firm chairman Graeme W. Bush. “It’s that philosophy that helps us succeed against the world’s biggest law firms in some of the country’s most significant and challenging cases.”
In its profile of the firm, The National Law Journal highlighted new arrivals at the firm’s New York and Baltimore offices. In particular, it emphasized in New York the experience brought by Steven M. Cohen as a former aide to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo; in Baltimore it noted top Maryland business litigators William J. Murphy and Robert T. Shaffer. Among the other firm partners mentioned were Graeme W. Bush, John J. Connolly, Carlos Angulo, Shawn P. Naunton, Alexandra W. Miller, William W. Taylor III, and Daniel P. Moylan.
The National Law Journal also singled out several recent cases as part of the basis for the firm’s inclusion in the Hot List. These included the dismissal of all charges against former International Monetary Fund managing director Dominique Strauss-Kahn in New York v. Strauss-Kahn, a $5.3 million jury verdict on behalf of the firm’s client in Lawlor v. Online Resources Corp., and approval of a client’s application for its generic version of the blockbuster cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor® by the Food and Drug Administration in Mylan Pharmaceuticals, et al v. U.S. Food and Drug Administration, et al. Noting Zuckerman Spaeder’s representation of senior officials in several high-profile federal investigations, The National Law Journal wrote that the firm “frequently gets the call when the feds come knocking.”
