Midsize Hot List, The National Law Journal, 2014

In 2014, for the fifth consecutive year, Zuckerman Spaeder LLP was named to The National Law Journal’s Midsize Hot List, an annual recognition of distinguished U.S. law firms. According to The National Law Journal, the 2014 Midsize Hot List represents firms with 51 to 150 attorneys that “are succeeding at a time when many of their bigger competitors are struggling amid high headcounts and overhead.”

In its profile of the firm, The National Law Journal noted, “From terrorism financing to pro football injuries to political scandals, lawyers at Zuckerman Spaeder are at the forefront of some of the most important legal battles of the day. The 95-lawyer litigation boutique points to its lean structure and experienced lawyers as keys to its success.”

The profile emphasized the high experience level of the Zuckerman Spaeder team, a byproduct of the firm’s focus on lean, partner-driven representation, as well as the firm’s recent expansion into new areas of expertise, evidenced by the addition of partners Jason R. Lilien, the former head of the New York State Charities Bureau who has launched the Nonprofit Organizations Practice, and Jon R. Fetterolf, who brought from Williams & Connolly LLP a practice including white collar defense, civil litigation, and sports law.

The National Law Journal also singled out recent cases as part of the basis for the firm’s inclusion in the Midsize Hot List, including ongoing suits against Credit Lyonnais S.A. and Arab Bank PLC for alleged involvement in funding Middle Eastern terrorism and the firm’s representation of a number of former National Football League players in litigation against the league over concussions.
