Partner Deborah J. Jeffrey Confirmed as Inspector General of Corporation for National and Community Service

Zuckerman Spaeder LLP congratulates partner Deborah J. Jeffrey on her ‎confirmation as inspector general of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). Ms. ‎Jeffrey was nominated to this post by President Obama in November 2011 and confirmed by the ‎Senate on Friday, June 29. She is expected to begin work at CNCS later this month. CNCS is a federal ‎agency that oversees community service programs such as AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and Learn and ‎Serve America. ‎

‎“Deb Jeffrey is an exceptional lawyer who will be a tremendous asset to the Corporation for National ‎and Community Service," said Zuckerman Spaeder chairman Graeme W. Bush. “During her more ‎than 23 years at Zuckerman Spaeder, she built a practice advising lawyers and government officials ‎on matters relating to professional ethics, in addition to representing companies and executives in ‎numerous complex civil and criminal cases that grabbed headlines across the country. The same skill ‎and judgment that make her a great litigator and trusted advisor in high-stakes cases will serve her ‎well in her role as inspector general. Deb will be missed at Zuckerman Spaeder, but we’re very proud ‎of the role she will play at CNCS, as we are of the contributions of all of our alums in government ‎service.”‎

At Zuckerman Spaeder, Ms. Jeffrey has had an active practice representing law firms in matters ‎related to legal ethics, disciplinary proceedings, bar admissions, unauthorized practice of law, lawyer ‎mobility, law firm structure and governance, and lawyers' responsibilities under the U.S. Securities ‎and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) Sarbanes-Oxley rules. She also has extensive experience ‎representing corporations and individual directors and officers before the SEC and the Department of ‎Justice and defends complex private securities fraud litigation and class and derivative litigation. She ‎has counseled companies and executives on corporate governance and has also prosecuted and ‎defended sophisticated business litigation on behalf of public and private companies.‎
