Zuckerman Spaeder Honored with “Pillar of Justice Award” by Maryland Legal Aid
The Equal Justice Council (ECJ) of Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) celebrated the 26th Annual Equal Justice Awards on May 13. Zuckerman Spaeder’s Baltimore office was honored at the event with the “Pillar of Justice Award,” which celebrates the firm’s outstanding support and leadership among the private bar.
In awarding this honor, MLA stated, “In addition to setting the highest standard among the private bar for per-attorney contributions, Zuckerman Spaeder has also dedicated invaluable pro bono expertise to Maryland Legal Aid on a range of important issues. The value of these contributions and services is significant and allows Maryland Legal Aid to focus resources on serving clients with low-income in need of critical legal help.”
Founded in 1997, MLA is a private, non-profit law firm and the largest provider of free, direct legal services in Maryland. The EJC collaborates closely with private lawyers and law firms to advance and support MLA’s mission.
“We are deeply proud of our longstanding partnership with Maryland Legal Aid and the Equal Justice Council,” reflected Baltimore partner Martin S. Himeles, Jr., who co-chairs the EJC and introduced the keynote speaker at this year’s event. “It is an honor to be recognized for our pro bono commitments and our support of equal access to justice, and we look forward to continuing our work with MLA to expand access to legal services for those who need it most.”
Zuckerman Spaeder has received several recent accolades for its dedication to pro bono representation and community service. Last year, MLA and ECJ recognized the firm with two awards for its “exceptional support” at the 25th Annual Equal Justice Awards event. Additionally, the firm has received the National Legal Aid and Defender Association’s Beacon of Justice Award in 2024, 2022, and 2021, the Amica - Center for Immigrant Rights’ 2023 Detained Children’s Champion Award, and was named a 2023 “Justice Partner” by Legal Aid DC.
