Zuckerman Spaeder LLP Congratulates Former Partner William B. Schultz on His Appointment as HHS General Counsel

Zuckerman Spaeder LLP is pleased to congratulate former partner William B. Schultz, who has been nominated by President Obama to serve as general counsel for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). In 2011, Mr. Schultz left the firm—where he was a partner for 10 years—to serve as principal deputy general counsel and acting general counsel at HHS.

“Bill Schultz was a respected and admired member of our team for many years,” said Zuckerman Spaeder chairman Graeme W. Bush. “Much of the success we are experiencing in our food and drug work can be attributed to his dedication to help build this practice. We are excited to see his hard work and extraordinary talent recognized by this administration, and we congratulate him on his important role in public service.”

During his time with Zuckerman Spaeder, Mr. Schultz founded the firm’s nationally recognized Food and Drug Practice, which represents a range of clients in courts, before Congress, in front of the FDA and other government agencies, and during investigations by the Department of Justice or other law enforcement bodies. Under the leadership of partners Carlos Angulo, Kate Beardsley, and Alexandra W. Miller, the Food and Drug Practice continues to represent brand-name and generic pharmaceutical, medical device, cosmetic, over-the-counter medication, biologics, and food companies—and their executives—as well as nonprofit organizations, trade associations, government agencies, and members of Congress.

The firm’s food and drug attorneys have vast experience helping their clients navigate the complex FDA regulatory environment and are well-versed in the scientific and technical subjects that lie at the heart of many of the issues facing their clients in that environment. They are also experienced litigators who have proven track records of successfully advancing their clients’ interests in court. Many also have previous experience working in the executive and legislative branches of government that they can bring to bear on the problems facing their clients. The firm has been recognized for FDA law in both editions of U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Law Firms.”
