Anant Kumar represents patients and health care providers in disputes with health insurance companies. Anant works to ensure that patients receive the health plan benefits they are entitled to, and defends providers against attempts to reduce their reimbursement improperly.

Anant’s experience in the health care space spans a wide range. It includes representing plaintiffs in ERISA class-action litigation brought to secure appropriate insurance coverage and challenge wrongfully denied claims. His experience also includes advising institutional providers – inside and outside the context of litigation – on how to fight back against insurers, who often attempt to leverage their size and resources to wrongfully underpay physicians and facilities.

Before joining the firm, Anant served as a Staff Attorney at the Office of the Appellate Defender in New York City. While in that position, he partially briefed and argued the case People v. Luis Ortiz before the New York Court of Appeals, which resulted in a reversal of his client’s conviction.

Previously, he clerked for Hon. William Hendricks Yohn, Jr., in the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

During law school, Anant contributed his talents to numerous projects, including the Capital Punishment Clinic, the Capital Assistance Project, the Iraqi Refugee Assistance Project, and the Temporary Restraining Order Project. He was also a law clerk at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia and at the Federal Public Defender’s Office for the District of Maryland.

He graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University, earning his undergraduate degree in Slavic Languages and Literatures.
